Premier League: what did the opening game tell you about your team?

Opening day fixtures don’t come much harder than a trip to Stamford Bridge to face a rejuvenated Chelsea with new boss Jose Mourinho back at the helm.

The opening exchanges showed the Tigers the sheer gulf in class between the Championship and the Premier League. However, despite going 2-0 down and being completely outplayed by the boys in Blue for around 35 minutes, City showed glimpses that they could still survive in this league.

Steve Bruce seems to have solved the keeper conundrum with the signing of Allan McGregor. Although he clumsily gave away a penalty, he redeemed himself by saving the resulting spot kick. He also pulled off a superb double save just before half-time.

The introductions of Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore immediately added Premier League class to the midfield and they will prove to be valuable assets over the course of the season.
